I was born in Korea, and in 1989 I was awarded a Ph.D. Degree in Economics from the University of Oregon, USA. In 1990 I joined Kangwon National University (KNU), Korea as a Full-time Lecturer, and then became a full Professor in 2001. I have also been Visiting Professor/scholar/fellow at the University of Oregon, the University of Melbourne, Keio University, University of British Columbia, and the Bank of Korea. More recently, I was Senior Analyst at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariat, Senior Environmental Affairs Officer at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and Dean of Asia-Pacific Cooperation Academy of Kangwon National University.
Teaching
At KNU, I have taught courses (both at the undergraduate and graduate levels) in international trade, international finance, international economic policy, macroeconomics, applied econometrics, the economy in Asia and the Pacific, and the Korean economy. When I was Visiting Professor, I also taught several courses in English such as international economics, macroeconomics at the University of Oregon and Keio University.
I have published a number of articles on problems of international trade, international technology transfer, international finance, environmental economics, the Korean economy, and regional economic cooperation in East Asia and the Pacific. My papers have been published in many leading international journals such as World Economy, World Development, Review of World Economics, China Economic Review, Japan and the World Economy, European Journal of Health Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Japanese Economic Review, Singapore Economic Review, Applied Economics, Asian Economic Papers, Agenda, Australian Economic History Review, ASEAN Economic Bulletin, Korea and the World Economy, and Korean Economic Review.
